ZOMBO, September 15, 2025 – Authorities in Uganda’s West Nile Region are investigating two violent incidents, including a fatal mob action in Zombo District and a murder in neighboring Koboko, as police arrest suspects and issue stern warnings against taking the law into one’s own hands.
In Zombo District, territorial police are probing a mob action that occurred on September 14, 2025, in Mayera Cell, Dwanga Ward, Paida Town Council. The deceased has been identified as Awekonimungu, a 19-year-old male adult. Two suspects have been arrested to assist in the investigations.
The response team was led by Deputy Inspector of Police (D/IP) Otwikende Richard, with the case documented by the Homicide Department of Zombo Police and the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO).
In a related development, Koboko Police are investigating the murder of Data Alegesi, a 40-year-old businessman residing in Lomutu Cell, Isoko Ward, Koboko District. Four suspects have been apprehended to aid the probe.
SP Anguyo Jimmy Bayiga, the regional police spokesperson, emphasized the dangers of mob justice and urged the public to refrain from such actions. “Police urges members not to take the law into their hands,” SP Bayiga stated. “Suspects are at police pending investigations, and on evidence, they will be charged to courts of law.”
These incidents highlight ongoing challenges with vigilante violence in the region, as authorities work to ensure justice is administered through legal channels. Investigations into both cases are ongoing, with further updates expected as more details emerge.
