Woman Arrested in Arua City for Alleged Aggravated Defilement of 16-Year-Old Boy

2025-09-19 11:00:00

Arua City, September 18, 2025 – Police in Arua City are investigating a shocking case of aggravated defilement involving a 16-year-old male student, following an incident reported on September 14, 2025.

According to a press statement released by the Territorial Police of Arua City, the alleged perpetrator, identified as Nambi Caroline, is accused of committing the offense against the minor at around 11:30 a.m. on the specified date.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim had been sent home from school to retrieve some items but deviated from his route to watch a football match between Manchester United and Manchester City at a local hall. After the game, as the boy made his way home, he passed by an area where the suspect operates as a commercial sex worker at night. It is alleged that Nambi grabbed the victim and pulled him into her room, where the defilement occurred. The victim has corroborated this account in his statement to the police.

However, the suspect maintains that the encounter was consensual, claiming the boy approached her voluntarily seeking services, which she provided for a fee of 5,000 Ugandan shillings. She further stated that she used protection during the act, citing her awareness of her HIV status.

The swift intervention by vigilant community members played a crucial role in the suspect's arrest. Residents promptly apprehended Nambi and handed her over to the police, preventing any vigilante action. The police expressed profound gratitude to the community for their cooperation and for upholding the rule of law.

"Investigations into the matter are complete," the statement noted. "The file is now being forwarded to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for legal guidance and possible sanctioning."

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about child safety and exploitation in urban areas. Authorities urge parents and guardians to monitor their children's activities closely, especially during school hours.

SP Anguyo Jimmy Bayiga, representing the West Nile Region Police, emphasized the importance of community-police partnerships in combating such crimes.

The case highlights the complexities of consent, exploitation, and public health issues in sensitive legal matters. Further updates will be provided as the legal process unfolds.
